REVIEW

In “Dark Matter,” a new Syfy original series, the crew members of a spaceship awaken one by one to a set that looks like the set of every other Syfy space series – think “Battlestar Galactica,” but this show is less successful. No one remembers who they are, though. As the first episode wears on, they begin to discover skills that they didn’t know they had: a facility with the ship’s computer, knowledge of swordplay, medical expertise, etc. Of course, other things are revealed, as well. At the end of that episode, a major revelation sheds light on the crew’s identities. You won’t be shocked by that information. The music suggests that something important is going on, but I couldn’t detect anything else to back up its claims.

This is typical fare for Syfy … typical, typical, typical. The writing, acting, and special effects are on shaky ground, as usual, but they’re good enough to escape embarrassment … barely. If you tend to watch this network every Friday night, regardless of what’s on, then, by all means, watch this – it’s no worse than any of Syfy’s other shows. However, if you tend to avoid this network, then this show won’t give you a reason to search your TV provider’s channel listings to find it. One episode is enough for me.

Verdict: Whatever

About: (Source: darkmatter)

The crew of a derelict spaceship is awakened from stasis with no memories of who they are or how they got on board. Facing threats at every turn, they have to work together to survive a voyage charged with vengeance, betrayal and hidden secrets.
