“Justified” is a police (marshals) crime drama with the feel and substance of a modern-day western. It shoots straight from the hip. The writing is lean, and the acting follows suit. Simply put, this is a well-made show.
The title refers to the central character’s (Raylan Givens) quick trigger. He’s a marshal who has no problem shooting someone, as long as they give him cause. … It doesn’t take much. This gets him into trouble from the very first episode.
Timothy Olyphant is perfectly cast as Raylan; he looks, talks, and walks the part. Walton Goggins, as Boyd Crowder, is another notable member of the cast; he plays the central “villain” who has a smooth tongue and a quick wit that helps him evade all kinds of disastrous situations. His evasions never seem forced, though; somehow, they always make sense. That’s a credit to the writers and to the actor.
This is the second FX show (after “Damages”) that I started watching, and I’m so glad that I did.
Verdict: Very, Very Good
About: (Source: justified)
Based on Elmore Leonard’s novella Fire in the Hole, Justified was developed by Graham Yost and stars Timothy Olyphant as Deputy US Marshal Raylan Givens, a lawman who finds himself drawn back to his home state of Kentucky. This January, Raylan confronts the Crowes, a deadly, lawless family from Florida intent on settling in Harlan with new criminal enterprises in mind. Meanwhile, Boyd Crowder struggles to free his imprisoned fiancée Ava as he partners with the Dixie Mafia’s Wynn Duffy.
