“Revenge,” created by Mike Kelley (“The O.C.”), is a primetime soap opera that knows exactly what it is. It’s a glossy revenge-fantasy with a wink.
Everyone involved knows what kind of show this is. The writing and acting are expertly bad: bad, in a good way, if that’s your cup of tea. Madeleine Stowe, as Victoria Grayson, embodies everything that this show is. She revels in its soapy style, delivering knowing looks and off-voiced daggers. She’s great.
“Revenge” isn’t restricted by logic or probability. No, it wants to create jaw-dropping moments instead. Unlike in “Scandal,” there’s no rushing here, and they don’t take themselves too seriously. There are plenty of serious moments, of course, but there’s always a twist that prevents this show from descending too far into pathos.
“Revenge” is mindless fun. If the concept sounds diverting, then check it out. If you can’t stand high-end soap opera techniques, then stay far, far away.
Verdict: Good (Very Good for the Genre)
About: (Source: revenge)
This is not a story about forgiveness; Revenge is a show about retribution. Meet Emily Thorne, the newest resident of The Hamptons. When she was a little girl (and known as Amanda Clarke) her father, David Clarke, was framed for a horrific crime and subsequently sent to prison. While serving his time, the conspirators plotted and murdered David in order to prevent the truth from coming out. Emily is now back with a new identity and ready to take vengeance on the people that murdered her father and stole her childhood.
