“Intruders” is a television series in the classic dark horror tradition. Appropriately faded-out imagery helps it look the part. Plus, the actors are strong, especially the little girl who shifts between being herself and being her intruder. This isn’t the kind of horror that’s fun to watch; it isn’t “The Strain.” However, like “The Strain,” “Intruders” will creep you out. It’ll keep you guessing, too.
But the real question is whether “Intruders” will keep you guessing too much. The first episode doesn’t introduce the viewer to the rules of the Intruders. You have to speculate and piece the information together yourself. I wasn’t bothered by that at all during that episode, but that feeling may change as the series progresses. We’ll see.
While I enjoyed the first episode of “Intruders,” it doesn’t give me enough to know whether I’ll like the entire series. For now, I look forward to the rest of the episodes. …
By the end of the first season, “Intruders” lost me. It just didn’t keep my interest. There was too much of a focus on keeping the audience in the dark and not enough of a focus on telling the story. After a while, I wondered why I was watching it. The meager revelations do nothing to provide clarity to the story or increase the suspense. I really couldn’t care less. I won’t continue to watch “Intruders” if there’s a second season.
Verdict: OK to Somewhat Good Overall
About: (Source: intruders)
From writer and executive producer Glen Morgan (The X-Files), Intruders is about a secret society devoted to chasing immortality by seeking refuge in the bodies of others. A contemporary, chilling, paranormal tale set in the moody Pacific Northwest, the eight part series spins a fascinating and complex web of drama. As strange, apparently unrelated events start happening, multiple story-lines – a missing wife, an assassin covering his crimes, a child on the run – begin to intertwine to reveal a conspiracy that will forever change our understanding of human nature.
