“Nashville” is a fairly standard network drama that has soap opera story lines. However, the execution (along with the country music) is what distinguishes this show from most other network dramas. The writing and acting are top-notch. I never feel like I’m being manipulated or that any of the characters are behaving in a way that’s inconsistent with their personalities and backstories. These people know what they’re doing.
Led by the ever-reliable Connie Britton and a surprisingly spot-on Hayden Panettiere, the cast excels at delivering every moment with just the right mixture of effortlessness and passion. While some of the singing doesn’t live up to the standard of country music stars (Britton’s singing in particular), it never gets in the way. (I don’t even pay attention to most of the songs.)
Before I started watching it, I didn’t expect “Nashville” to be as good as it is. I started watching it just because Connie Britton was in it. Boy, am I glad that I did! There’s nothing in particular that stands out here; it’s the overall production that stands out. This is one of the most consistent shows on all of television.
Verdict: Very Good

“Music City” can mean so many things to different people. In Nashville, musicians and songwriters are at the heart of the storms driven by their own ambitions. Some are fueled by their creativity and passion for fame, others struggle to cope with the pressures of success and doing everything in their power to stay on top.
