“Sherlock” is an extremely well-made show. Everything is well-done, from the cinematography to the editing. The casting of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson is perfect: Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, respectively, are a perfect pair.
Despite that, I’m never shocked by “Sherlock,” and I want to be. There are revelations, but they don’t bowl me over. I think that the dilemma lies in the presentation of those revelations. There’s a melancholic undertone that dulls the potential for knockout moments: It’s very British in that way.
“Sherlock” is definitely worth watching, yet it’s not as satisfying as it could be, especially since each episode is 1 1/2 hours long.
Verdict: Good

Sherlock Holmes stalks again in a thrilling contemporary version of the Victorian-era whodunits based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock stars Benedict Cumberbatch (Atonement, The Last Enemy) as the go-to consulting detective in 21st-century London, with Martin Freeman (The Office UK) as his loyal friend, Dr. John Watson, and Rupert Graves (The Forsyte Saga) as the long-suffering Detective Inspector Lestrade. Fast-paced, funny, and surreally true to the hero’s fantastic gifts for deduction, the series is co-created by Steven Moffat (Doctor Who, Coupling) and Mark Gatiss (Doctor Who, The League of Gentlemen).
