(After watching the first season)
“Sleepy Hollow” is a mishmash of all kinds of previous ideas. In addition to the “Sleepy Hollow” mythology, those ideas include historical myths (the Revolutionary War, colonial secret societies, and so on), religion, witchcraft, and the supernatural. It’s sort of fun to watch how the writers cobble those ideas together.
However, “Sleepy Hollow” lacks a narrative focus as a result of that mishmash. That might give some viewers pause, but here’s the thing: It’s not boring. It’s actually mildly entertaining and somewhat different from every other show on TV right now. But it still feels like a combination of different parts from J.J. Abrams-produced shows. Everything’s competently done, but nothing’s stellar.
I must admit that the end of the first season of “Sleepy Hollow” does get a little too silly, though. Will that become a trend, or will they right the ship? We’ll have to see what happens during the next season, I guess.
Verdict: Somewhat Good
About: (Source: sleepyhollow)
From co-creators/executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (the “Star Trek” and “Transformers” franchises, “Fringe”) comes the adventure thriller SLEEPY HOLLOW. In this modern-day retelling of Washington Irving’s classic, ICHABOD CRANE (Tom Mison, “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen”) is resurrected and pulled two and a half centuries through time to find that the world is on the brink of destruction and that he is humanity’s last hope, forcing him to team up with a contemporary police officer (Nicole Beharie, “Shame,” “American Violet”) to unravel a mystery that dates back to the founding fathers.
