REVIEW

“Babylon” is a miniseries in six parts. Its first part (or episode) begins with a recap of the two-hour pilot that preceded it. (The pilot aired in 2014.) That pilot was directed by Danny Boyle, one of its creators.

The first part of “Babylon” is well-paced and has correct timing. However, it’s not for me. It doesn’t make me laugh when it should, and the shifts between comedy and drama aren’t sharp enough to hold my attention.

The humor, when it appears, is raunchy yet understated, though; it’s very British. So, if that kind of humor works for you, have at it. Otherwise, “Babylon” is decent yet unnecessary viewing. … You decide.

Verdict: OK

About: (Source: babylon)

Academy Award winner Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire) delivers a satirical look at the inner workings of a UK police department and the media necessary to inform the public. Fresh off of her hit TED talk, American new media PR maven Liz Garvey (Brit Marling) arrives to head up publicity at the London police force, all guns blazing and without a clue of what she’s walking into. This fish out of water story hilariously shows the clash of cultures and age, the embrace of transparency and technology as well as the real underbelly of the relationship between media and government.
