The Disappearance (WGN)
Anthony Sullivan vanishes mysteriously on his 10th birthday while he is doing a treasure hunt. Anthony’s entire family is devastated by his unexplained and very sudden disappearance and events begin the night before he vanishes and the investigation as it begins to take shape. The police search for signs of Anthony and long-buried, devastating family secrets are dredged up to the surface and touches each member of the Sullivan family. `The Disappearance’ is a compelling event series that will send CTV viewers on an emotional and intense journey,” said Mike Cosentino, Senior Vice-President, Programming, CTV Networks, and CraveTV.
Florida Girls (Pop)
Having grown up in Florida, series creator and executive producer Laura Chinn draws upon her real-life experiences in the Sunshine State for this comedy about four broke girls who are forced to take stock of their lives when their best friend moves out of their shared mobile home to start a career. Decidedly lowbrow and low-rent, the girls struggle to overcome the unfortunate cards they are dealt and find self-worth in a society that deems poor, uneducated women as valueless. Fortunately, the female foursome has a tight-knit, nonjudgmental and loving friendship to fall back upon while navigating life’s endless barrage of comedic curveballs.
Season Premieres
Sweetbitter (Starz)
A new life awaits 22-year-old Tess when she arrives friendless in New York City and lacking any specific ambitions beyond finding a job. Her charm and observational nature lead to an invitation to train at one of the city’s best restaurants. She thinks it is a temporary place to wait for her life’s big break, but Tess is quickly intoxicated by the people she meets and by the chaotic world behind the scenes — tasting expensive wine, exploring dive bars, learning whom to trust. Her co-workers become her family, and through them she finds a sense of belonging that she has never encountered before.
Harlots (Hulu)
In this drama set in 18th century London, Samantha Morton stars as Margaret Wells, a brothel owner and mother to two daughters, Charlotte and Lucy. When Margaret’s business is attacked by Lydia Quigley (Lesley Manville), a ruthless rival madam, a war breaks out over the city’s most profitable commercial activity — sex. Margaret is determined to fight back and protect her business, even if it puts everything else at risk, including her family. Creators Moira Buffini and Alison Newman also serve as executive producers.
