Since this month is Women’s History Month, the Critic and the Referee decided to celebrate by highlighting actresses who are on the verge of making history and films that feature female characters (real or imagined) who drive the plot. From Shailene Woodley to Danai Gurira, from “Frida” to “9 to 5,” this conversation covers both familiar and unfamiliar ground. Hats off to the women who have been, are, and will be the movers-and-shakers of history. Enjoy!
Note: Tessa Thompson appeared in the play, “Smart People.” She didn’t appear in “Race.” The Ref apologizes profusely for the mistake.
